In 1978, Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley presented their first ESCADA collection for a new business idea: the democratization of elite haute couture with top quality in fabrics, fit, and workmanship, with perfectly color-coordinated pieces to allow mixing and matching through several seasons.

Margaretha Ley, a former Swedish model, had a solid education in tailoring and experiences working with customers. She used her experiences to combine an exquisite feel for colors, a devotion to detail, and a sure sense for what women desired. Bold color combinations, opulent embroideries, combinations of patterns, and leopard prints endowed ESCADA’s early creations. This fashion style was exactly in tune with the extroverted spirit of the 1980s.

Her knitwear designs featured exquisite inlays and appliqués on pullovers and jackets, earning her the renowned international Mohair Council for Excellence in Design award.

THE 90’S

After Margaretha Ley’s death, Brian Rennie was appointed as creative director in 1994. Rennie managed the rejuvenation of the brand and its adaptation to the more low-key look of the 1990s. The brand regained its power with a colorful and sensual “New Elegance” feel. In 1998, Hollywood Star Kim Basinger accepted her Oscar in a pistachio-colored satin gown by ESCADA Couture, reconfirming the brand’s international high-class image.

Escada has announced the appointment of Niall Sloan as its new Global Design Director. Sloan, who is set to join the team at Escada from Hunter, will begin his new role effective August 1, 2017. Prior to serving at Hunter, Sloan also worked closely alongside Christopher Bailey at Burberry.

“Escada is a brand I have been fond of for many years. Its heritage is fun, bold and feminine with a strong point of view in luxury womenswear. I’m very excited to be a part of reshaping its future and can’t wait to get started.” said Niall Sloan.

Own Your Summer Style & Join Us At Our Sidewalk Soiree

Lights, camera, action. We’ve rolled out the red carpet for our end of the summer upscale sale with up to 80% off at our Sidewalk Soiree, July 13-15. Raise glasses with us as we pop champagne, shop and socialize about the summer fashion of 2017. And don’t forget to tag us at @shopshela. We love sharing looks. Read below to learn about how to mix current summer trends to fit your unique style. We can’t wait to see everyone at the event!

Strut in a summer tan. What better way to show off your tan by mixing with this summer’s hot colors and accessories. From blush tones, trending navy neutrals and an array of bright colors. Open your wardrobe palette to compliment your fresh tan and try a new color. A personal favorite of mine is blush. It pops playfully and adds an elevated touch above classic white and nude staples. Adding accent accessories also brings a fun twist to complete a look. Favorites include trending pearls, metallics and statement fringe, for an  extra sparkle.

Outer space galactic. Expand your perspective of fashion in the ever evolving and shimmering metallic land of space symbolism seen through stars and galaxy inspired designs.

It fabrics of the summer. Get up close and personal with linen and cotton summer classics and twist it up this year. Silk, fur and velvet have been thrown in the mix to spice up summer looks. Try mixing an assortment of fabrics by taking a classic t-shirt, add a velvet or silk top, pair with denim styles and add a clutch to elevate the casual chic look.

Revealing a story. Just like watching a play, a movie and reading a book. Every venue takes you on a journey and story that compels and captures the audience and so can fashion. From each designer’s unique story and background, our lines carry much more than just a label. It tells a person’s unique experience and story behind the design. Take time to learn about what you are wearing and what it represents! A new favorite line we carry is Kobi Halperin. Inspired by his eastern European roots and heritage, his collection focuses on details with a handcrafted touch for women. He recently attended the CFDA Fashion Awards which honored the best and brightest in American design in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as journalism, creative vision, personal style, and lifetime achievement.

Elevate. Tailored looks always work in the office and also work during off hours in-between work and play. A simple top can be elevated with a tailored blazer or suit pant. Learn to mix it up and try accenting your ordinary denim or cotton tee with a tailored piece. Look for unique details including sleeve and tie-string details.

Every season works. With the right transitional pieces, one might borrow certain pieces from every season and make the outfit work. The key is to learn how to mix up pieces and feel comfortable in your own style. Sometimes it takes a little trail and error. Don’t be afraid to experiment and find what works.
